Let me share what a great time we had on the St. Joe  fishing was awesome as usual.  The cabin was great my wife and daughter really enjoyed sitting out on the deck and watching the birds and dragon flies. The first time they were on the Joe we stayed at (somewhere else in Avery) so they were pleasantly surprised with the cabin Thanks again for sharing your special place on the Joe

Small Bugs

There are a lot of small no see ums in the house and they collect by whatever light you have on.  They don’t seem to bite or anything but there are quite a large amount of them in the house  Besides that it was a great stay.

Hello Wade,

Happy to hear all was well aside from the “small bugs “. Unfortunately there is not much we can do to prevent them. I believe they are so small they can come through the screens. I have found that if you turn off the interior lights, turn on the porch lights, and open the doors they clear out quickly. They are annoying but as you said harmless and are only around for a short time each summer …….but there are always bugs of some variety.

What an adorable rental. It’s clear you take great pride in it. We found it spotless and filled with amenities and small details (the charcoal BBQ supplies is a great example) that made our stay memorable. We had our four fishing buddies up for dinner one night, and all they could say, other than “How do I get in contact with the owner?,” was “Wow!” The porch off the kitchen with its sun shade made for a wonderful meal.  

I hope you’ll continue to offer it in the rental pool; it’s a gem. Thanks for everything.

It was mine and my friends first time on the Joe. We couldn’t be more thankful that we were lucky enough to get to stay here! It couldn’t have been more perfect for our trip. After a multi-decade hiatus on our fishing trips, we feel this made up for some lost time.

We had a lovely time at the cabin. Your meticulous care was largely responsible for that as our first impression of the cabin was that it was clean, organized and well taken care of.

The hummingbirds were amazing to watch and gave us a lot of enjoyment in the morning and night. They probably ate 1/2 of the feeder and will likely need a refill by the afternoon!

We encountered no problems except for the the temporary inconvenience of having no electricity for a couple of hours on Wednesday morning. We used one of the LED lanterns to see in the bathroom.

Thank you for returning the deposit so quickly. We always try to leave any place we rent as clean as possible. It was certainly enjoyable and peaceful. With all that is going on the world Avery was a welcome relief no cell no internet was wonderful. My wife commented wouldn't it be nice to live in a place as calm and polite as Avery. You certainly did a lot of work on the cabin to make it a very neat and clean place to be. I really don't have anything of importance to suggest for improvements. But if we come  back I will bring a tunnel can you use for charcoal used to help lite the charcoal gets really hot quickly. I cannot imagine how anyone could complain as you have provided such a nice place in a remote area

Hi Scott

We had a fabulous time exploring Northern and Central Idaho and your house helped to make it a wonderful experience. My Dad (and all of us) really enjoyed riding the Hiawatha Trail and seeing history up close. He watched the DVD of pictures you provided a couple of times. Wade was friendly and quite knowledgeable about the area. It was really gracious of him to take time from his schedule to come and visit with us. I appreciate you going out of your way to make this a memorable trip.

Your house was ideal. My dad said multiple times "it is the nicest house in town." It was clean and the beds were of good quality. Even my 14 year old daughter commented on how comfortable the memory foam mattress on the pull out bed was! The linens were of high quality and that was appreciated, especially after 4 nights of tent camping at my age! Your communication with me regarding payments and house instructions were timely and concise.

You asked for some feedback so here are a few suggestions, but overall the house is quite nice the way that it is.

For the kitchen:

1. I would suggest a new coffee pot. That coffee pot requires the coffee to be COMPLETELY brewed before you can pull out the carafe. There was a learning curve with that and it would be nice if the pot interrupted the brewing in order for someone to pour them self a cup.

2. There is not a rubber spatula that we could find. One would be helpful to scrape out containers.

3. Plastic cutting boards that can go in the dishwasher. The acrylic cutting boards have paper on the back of them (and it is starting to come off of some of them) and have to be washed by hand and because of the paper they are hard to clean. This is less sanitary especially if meat is involved

4. The light that hangs over the sink is low. My 6'2" husband hit his head multiple times on it. It is a nice light but maybe different location?

Other:

1. The grill has started to take on a lot of rust. I know that is a byproduct of Mother Nature but it may need to be replaced after this season.

2. Perhaps provide some options for left-over food for your renters? This was our last stop on the trip and there was some food (unopened) we would have been happy to pass on. We ended up leaving a few items in the fridge and the freezer (eggs, ice cream bars, condiments) hoping that your hostess may be able to use them. If Avery has a food pantry we would have been happy to donate more unopened items on our way out of town. Just a thought.

If it wasn't so far to Avery, I know my parents would be renting from you every year!

The temperature in Avery reached an incredible 106+ during their stay. I give a special shout out to them as they inadvertently took a spoon from the home. While we were not even aware a spoon was missing (and never would have known) it showed up in my mailbox about a week after their departure.  Their honesty and respect for property is admired and greatly appreciated.

I really enjoyed the wall hangings in the cabin, especially the 1973 photo of the rail yard when things were going strong. I have been by Harlowton Mt many times and looked at the engine they have on display there. Can't believe it has been 40 years since it all stopped.

The cabin is well appointed and very nice. The only thing I missed was a t-pot. Pan served fine but you mentioned you would like any comments.

I am sure we will reserve again for next ***. Good health and God willing.

Dear Scott and Linda

I just returned from my eight week vacation, culminating with the week on the St. Joe fishing with my two oldest sons. I have rented condos and homes in California, Oregon, Washington, Montana and Arizona but have never enjoyed one as much as I enjoyed your St. Joe cabin. Your remodeling is first rate and the kitchen has all the conveniences we needed.

The only downside is the sleeper-sofa which is remarkably uncomfortable. I believe my son Marc has written to you about this issue. It has no mattress and lying on the springs makes sleeping a real challenge. Is there any hope that this will be replaced before next September? Even a roll-away cot would be an enormous improvement.

Having said that, I would like to rent the cabin again next year from ******* to ******, so put me on your calendar.

Fishing, Hiking, swimming, and fun in the sun! This was the BEST vacation we have had in years, Thank you Scott. The cabin is so beautiful and the St. Joe River is amazing for fishing and exploring. All together there were two kids (7 and 5) four adults and two dogs in this cabin and we all had plenty of room to roam. We also enjoyed the town and its residents, who were all so very nice and helpful. We are looking forward to coming back next year and we are looking into buy some floats and to use on the river. Hi.  I just got home after spending four days and nights at your St. Joe Retreat.  It was all and more than I expected.
